Acquaint Walks

A new way to walk with neighbors. Pick a park and a time — the app pairs you up with someone nearby for the walk.

We’re in beta, and we’d love your help getting walks started in your area. Install the app, suggest a spot near you, and invite a few neighbors.

Share this page with anyone you'd like to test with — acquaint.org/walks-testing has the install links for both iPhone and Android. The more testers, the better the app gets!

Your First Steps

  1. Download and install the app using the links above
  2. Create an account and log in
  3. There probably won't be any walks near you yet — that's normal!
  4. Suggest a Walk Location: Fill out the form in the app to suggest a spot near you. We recommend picking somewhere very convenient to reach.
  5. If you run into any issues, let us know — that's the whole point!

Common Points of Confusion

What it's not: an app to schedule walks with just your friends.
What it is: pick a time, pick a park, and the community shows up. (Do invite your friends!)

Acquaint Walks really shines once a community is up and running — people picking parks, showing up, and getting paired with neighbors they wouldn't have met otherwise. During early testing, you're experiencing the app before that community exists yet. Here's what that means:

"There are no walks near me"

That's expected! You may be the very first person in your area. Suggest a walk location in the app — that's the single most helpful thing you can do right now.

"I showed up and no one else was there"

In the live version, you won't need to coordinate outside the app — the community shows up. During testing, though, there aren't enough people yet for that to happen naturally. This is the phase where we're making sure everything works for when it does.

"What's the point if I'm walking alone?"

You're helping build something that works best with more people. Right now the goal is to make sure the app works: that routes look right, notifications fire, pairing does what it should, and nothing is confusing. Walking with someone new from your neighborhood is what this is all for, and it'll work because you helped get it right.

"The pairing didn't do anything"

Pairing needs at least two people at the same walk. During testing, if you want to see pairing in action, have a friend join the same walk. But don't worry if you can't — we have other ways to test it too.

What to Expect

Key point: We are making near-daily updates and it is very likely you'll encounter bugs. This is expected! Please report anything that seems off.

Your testing helps us catch issues before we launch to a wider audience. Every bug report, piece of feedback, or suggestion makes a real difference.

Some early users become Walks Champions — they pick a regular time and place, keep showing up, and help bring others in. If that sounds like you, let us know.
